Alameda Residents Launch Island Related Events and News Television Show

Community-oriented Cable Access Television show to offer residents timely information on current events

ALAMEDA, CA – Alameda Currents, Alameda’s first local news show, will begin weekly airings on Wednesday January 17th, 2007 at 7:30pm. Created by a group of Alameda residents, the show will focus on reporting major community news and events while also focusing on providing information on island-wide issues.

The pilot show will primarily focus on the upcoming Alameda Point developer selection process. Providing information on the history of the project, how the project is expected to move forward and an overview of the developers who have applied to take over the project after Alameda Point Community Partners terminated their involvement in the project.

“We see the issues surrounding the development of Alameda Point as a continuing issue that we will try and tackle in depth over the coming months” said Jeff Cambra, the host of the inaugural show. Formed after the 2006 elections, the show will aims to create an open forum for the respectful discussion of issue directly affecting Alameda.

Interviews in the pilot are expected to include Assistant City Manager David Brandt, as well as city planning and development services staff, and numerous Alameda residents. “We wanted to create an outlet to gather multiple points of view,” said Rob Bonta.

“By encouraging discussion of major issues, we hope to create more common ground among Alamedans with differing ideas.”

The show will feature a newsmagazine format. The show will open with weekly news and upcoming events and include a long format news segment and resident opinions will be broadcast.
